Map the venue and measure the fiber

The short version
- Drop the venue drawing in as an image or straight from a .pdf page.
- Set the scale by clicking two points a known distance apart and typing the real distance.
- Place your racks, then hand-route the fiber along the path it actually takes.
- Every trunk on that route gets a measured length, checked against the length you entered and the stock you assigned.
01Get the drawing in
The Venue Map tab sits in Phase 03 beside Topology. Load the venue drawing you were sent as an image, or point it at a page of a .pdf and netmap rasterises that page as the underlay. Draw zones over it for the areas you talk about out loud (PIT 1, FOH, dimmer beach) and drop note callouts wherever the drawing is lying to you.
02Set the scale once
Nothing measures until the map knows how big it is. In scale mode, click two points a known distance apart — a dimension line on the drawing, a 40' truck bay, the stage width — and type the real distance in feet or metres. The map gains a reference line and a live scale bar, and from then on everything you draw measures in feet.
One calibration per drawing. The chip in the toolbar clears it if the drawing changes.
03Route the fiber the way it really runs
Cable does not travel in straight lines. In route mode, click a rack marker, drop bend points along the path the cable actually takes — through the trough, up the catwalk, around the pit — and click the far rack. One route per rack pair, and that pair's trunk lines all ride it. Drag a bend to adjust, double-click the line to add one, alt-click to remove.
Routes are coloured by fiber kind — single-mode yellow, multimode aqua, DAC purple, copper grey — and a pair with no trunks assigned draws ghosted, so an unrouted run is visible rather than forgotten.
04Measured against what you entered
Each route wears a badge with its measured length. That measurement lands in a read-only Map column on Trunk Lines, so the number you typed and the number the map measured sit side by side. Two verdicts do the arguing for you: CHECK when the measured run is longer than the length you entered, and SHORT when measured plus slack exceeds the stock you assigned to it. Finding that on a laptop is cheaper than finding it on a catwalk.
05What prints
The composed map — drawing, zones, routes, rack markers and scale bar — prints as the landscape Venue Network Map sheet in the Diagrams band of the drawing set, with the route table beneath it: route, trunks, measured, slack, entered actual, stock, verdict. The same table lands in the workbook as the Venue Routes sheet, and the map publishes to the crew page as its own tab with a pan-and-zoom overlay.
