Draw the wiring inside a rack

The short version
- Topology → Wiring draws one rack at a time as a schematic.
- It is built from data you already entered — cables first, then switch-port assignments, then trunks as external tails.
- Wires are coloured by VLAN and styled by medium: solid copper, dash-dot fiber, dashed DMX.
- Arrange it by hand and it stays arranged. Prints per rack and publishes to the crew page.
01Nothing new to maintain
This is the part worth understanding before you draw anything: the wiring diagram is not a separate document you keep in step with the show. It is generated from what is already in it. Cables are authoritative; switch-port assignments fill in anything the cables did not cover, and that port's VLAN colours the wire; trunk lines draw as tails leaving the rack. Patch a port on Ports & Grid and the diagram already knows.
02Read the drawing
Every wired device in the rack becomes a schematic block — underlined title, make and model, IP and VLAN, and only the port rows that are actually referenced, each with a connection dot. A switch notes how many ports are still unpatched rather than drawing forty empty rows. Wires route port to port through clean gutter channels instead of crossing the page, and where more than six parallel runs connect the same two devices they collapse into one heavy line marked with the count.
Runs that leave the rack end in a labelled pill naming the far rack or device, so a sheet on the bench tells you where a tail goes without a second drawing. A legend inside the diagram lists the VLANs in use and the line-style key.
03The gaps it shows you
An amber badge lists any rack device with no drawn connections at all. That is usually not a drawing problem — it is a device nobody patched. Fix it on Ports & Grid or regenerate the cables, and it stops being a gap in both places at once.
04Arrange it once
The automatic layout is a starting point. Drag blocks where you want them and the arrangement is saved with the show, per rack, so the diagram you hand the shop is the one you composed rather than one that reshuffles itself the next time you open it.
05What prints
Tick Rack Wiring Diagrams in the export sections and each rack gets its own landscape sheet, numbered and in the drawing register like everything else. The same diagram publishes to the crew page as a Wiring tab, with device photos where your library has them, and downloads as an SVG if you want it in a drawing package.
