Map every strand of your fiber

Sheet G-113 · from the in-app Guide · updated 2026-10-17

The short version

01Trunk lines first

Trunk Lines holds the backbone: fiber, DAC or etherCON between racks, and DMX snakes if you want them on paper. Each line has a cable number (a numbering rule such as {zone}-{cat}{seq2} writes PAD-F01 for you), a category — home run, rack to rack, DMX snake, copper, power — both ends down to the port, the run length, slack and the stock each run is cut from. Coupled stock such as 350' ×2 + 500' ×2 is understood everywhere, and a run longer than its stock turns red.

02The strand map

On a fiber line the Strands cell reads 4/12 — strands in use out of strands in the cable. Open it and every strand gets a row in its TIA-598 colour: the link it carries, the port it lands on at each end (the lists offer that rack's switch ports and panel connectors), its VLAN and status. Pair duplex strands so TX and RX travel together, or tick BiDi for single-strand optics. A multi-cable line keeps each cable's strands apart (A1–A12, B1–B12).

03Duplex panels and barrels

Duplex ST feedthru panels build as pairs, each pair on one switch port, and draw as one twin line that forks at the panel. At a demarc or a patch, a strand can continue onto the next trunk line — the way a spare pair is carried through ST barrels from the demarc straight to a far rack. That path counts as its own link: the riser draws it as a dashed home run, the site plan draws it beside the runs it rides, and the chain-depth check counts it.

04Checks that follow the glass

Validation follows a link through its patch panels and barrels: an uplink is found even when it lands on a panel, spanning tree is checked per demarc network, and a fiber port running short at a rack is flagged before you ship.

05What prints

The Fiber Strand Map section prints every line strand by strand, a Fiber Panels sheet lists every patch-panel pair with the switch port and optic behind it, and the fiber pull list says what to bring. Labels print a sheet per spool with a flag for every strand.
